Electric Acupuncture

Is a technique of Acupuncture which utilises the electrical stimulation of needles. It has similarities to a TENS machine however is more advantageous as it has a deeper and more stimulating effect. It can be use to treat acute or chronic pain.

Electronic Muscle Stimulation (EMS)

EMS is a type of electrotherapy that helps with pain alleviation, increased blood circulation, muscle strengthening and recovery, and wound healing by stimulating a muscle contraction using electrical impulses. Uses electrode pads applied to the muscle area, painless, relaxing.  The electrodes cause your muscles to contract and this helps to tighten the area being targeted.

  • EMS is used to improve blood circulation, speed up metabolism, and firm and tighten the skin.
  • The contraction of the muscle also aid in decomposing the solid fat and prevent fat accumulation.
  • Improves joint pain and swelling, also preventing muscle atrophy.  EMS in muscle rehab and range of motion.  This will assist in decreasing stress and discomfort.
  • The EMS can also be utilised on chronic or acute injuries to speed up the recovery time. EMS is used by athletes in additional to the vigorous workouts they already perform on off days

Relief of Acute Pain

  • Musculoskeletal pain
  • Tendinopathies
  • Bone fractures

Relief of Chronic Pain

  • Low back pain
  • Arthritis
  • Phantom Pain
  • Peripheral Nerve issues
  • Facial pain
  • Stroke neurological effects

Other improvements useful in Musculoskeletal conditions

  • Acceleration of tissue repair by increasing circulation
  • Increase in blood flow
  • Increase muscle strengthening
  • Improved muscle control
  • Reduction of muscle spasticity
  • Improved healing of wounds, ulcers and scar tissue

How it works

1. Interrupt Pain Signals

EMS program works on what is called Gate Theory. This scientifically tested theory explains that non-painful input (or nerve stimulation) closes the nerve “gates” to painful input, which prevents pain sensation from traveling to the central nervous system. This means your pain is temporarily relieved for a period of time after use.

2. Release Endorphins

At various frequencies EMS will promote the release of endorphins into the bloodstream. These are your body’s natural pain killers. Studies have shown that there is a noticeable reduction in pain over 30-45 minutes that will last up to four hours after the device is turned off. This creates a short term pain solution while our massage and recovery programs work to create a long term solution that in some cases can relieve pain all together.

3. Reduce Inflammation

The neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) technology creates an electro-induced hyperfusion that may help to wash out and clear away cellular debris accumulated during the inflammatory response thereby decreasing pain. The utilisation of EMS has also displayed a significant impact in decreasing pain associated with DOMS ( delayed onset muscle soreness) and reducing markers of inflammation.

4. Increase Blood Flow

The EMS technology creates an electro-induced hyperfusion that may help to wash out and clear away cellular debris accumulated during the inflammatory response thereby decreasing pain. In addition, this extra supply of oxygen rich blood provides the tissue with the necessary nutrients to improve recovery.

5. Re-educate Muscle

neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) has the capacity to further enhance strength and muscular adaptations. When atrophy is present, the device will manually activate the muscles which re-educate the neural pathways allowing them to once again start firing on their own. This is a great way to accelerate the rehab process and reduce downtime.

6. Accelerated Muscle & Joint Recovery

In order for an athlete to reach the highest level it requires a dedication to training. All potentially set back by injuries, soreness, and fatigue. EMS proven stimulation technology provides athletes with customised programs based on their training to keep them healthy and moving forward. By increasing blood circulation, oxygenated and nutrient rich blood is delivered to the muscles to kickstart the healing process and improve overall recovery.

7. Effectively Warm-Up

EMS proven stimulation technology is equipped with a potentiation program designed to warm athletes up like never before. These muscle contractions positively impact the mechanical performance of subsequent muscle contractions. This is called post-activation potentiation.

How often can I have the treatment :
